10 Small Orange Lights Over St. Augustine Florida

Date:  January 1, 2012
Time:  12:05 a.m.

At approximately 12:05 a.m. on 1/1/12 my daughter and I saw about 10 small orange lights go over our house moving west to east in St Augustine, FL. They moved very fast and no noticeable sound. Did anyone else see this?

I too saw the same orange lights over downtown Jacksonville, Fl. At about 12:10am on 1/1/12. They were beautiful and looked like fire of some sort. They were coming from the sw of the river and traveling ne. After about two minutes, they would flicker out. It was so cool. I have no idea what they were! Do you?

I live in St. Augustine & have seen a silent orange/amber light travel northward up the beach at a slow, steady speed, high-helicopter-height, until it stopped still for about 20 seconds and abruptly blinked out. This year 2 of us saw 3 such lights pass by our place. The first one went by silently & was only a few-hundred yards horizontal distance, and at low-helicopter-height. Orange/amber round shape (hard to determine size but best guess is bus-sized) like looking at fire or glowing embers, too bright to really make out any shape. It travelled horizontally (with the wind, it should be noted) for about a mile, then faded out. This was followed by 2 more, one trailing 1/2-hr. behind the other, again following the intracoastal S to N, again as bright as an aircraft light, and also fading out a mile away. Very recently we saw yet another, motionless at first before descending westward rapidly onto the marsh area and fading out.

There are balloon and kite enthusiasts in town, a military station nearby, and hoaxes or cool obscure toys can't be ruled out, but they all appeared too bright to be Chinese lanterns, and didn't always move with the wind. Always completely silent. Maybe there's a mundane explanation, but they were all a lot of fun to watch in the sky, so cheers to any hoaxers anyway.

The lights were maybe closer to car-sized than bus-sized as previously described. Haven't given that part much thought as there's never been any shape apparent- just light coming from something you couldn't see or hear. Just trying to describe the area that didn't appear to be glare.

Saw this last night near Vilano Beach a little after 8pm. Celtic Festival was going on so I'm thinking they set off some type of lanterns or something. Seriously doubt they were UFO's. Really neat though, they were traveling northwest and flickered off into the distance.
